We have learned about maps and continents this year. We also dedicated alot of time to learn about letter writing. To extend our learning, we communicated with another classroom from across the globe in Jarkarta, Indonesia. We asked some students through our letter writing WIKI Space what their school and life was like.
We have really enjoyed sending letters to the students in Indonesia. We have sparked the children's curiosity about life in another part of the world, as well as learned about how we are alike in so many ways. We have researched the culture, and developed skills in using technology to communicate with others. The whole class has become a part of reading and expressing interest in thier own Pen-Pal letters, so we have been writing letters to many different people in our school.
Writing letters in a beautiful skill that is often overlooked and not much time is spent on it as students progress through the years, but I feel that if we provide meaningful expereiences while they are young, the art of letter writing will never die. No matter what you are writing on!
Through a computer, on a peice of paper, or a message in a bottle. A letter is a timeless form of expression and curiosity that always clenches our heart. Of course, until we get our reply, and then to see thier eyes light up and a smile stretch accross thier face, makes it all worth while.
Keep writing!
And please, don't forget to write to your teacher this summer!
